Close Up With Funsho Omojola

Chief Executive of Ekikete Arts link

Funsho Omojola has been painting for three decades now. The Yaba College Of Technology graduate of General Arts was motivated into the world of painting by his appreciation of rich African cultural heritage as a young boy growing up in the serene traditional setting of his home town Ayedun Ekiti in Ekiti State .According to him, he saw clearly written in the peaceful green surrounding of Ayedun Ekiti powerful expression of creativity, skill , beauty and elegance of Yoruba and indeed African Cultural heritage.

His being known and called Ekitikete Art Link is a constant reminder of the impact of his land of birth on the choice of a career in the world of painting. Funsho in a brief chat with Samuel Adejumo described himself as a fine artist,” I paint, I design with any kind of medium and I have being doing this since 1984 till date and I am deriving joy from it”.

Though he believes that his talent in painting was ordained by God,he explained that he took an assignment given to his cousin in school in 1983 for him to discover the God ordained path for him in life. Narrating this experience, Funsho explained; that his cousin, one Supo Olaleye came to him with his assignment and his input was highly appreciated and commended by all, that marks the beginning of his journey to the world of Art.

About his further motivation, Funsho has these to say: Everything motivates me, everything created by God. They serve as sources of inspiration in my painting I also get inspirations through dreams. Any time I have my usual dreams, immediately I got to the studio, I quickly sketched it out so as not to forget.

Most work I create as a result of my dream usually generate more sales as clients keep ordering for the that particular painting because I know its God communicating to the world through those paintings. Also, the people, environment, happening all contribute to how I get inspired. I play with kids, I observe the way they do things; according to Henry Ford, keep your mind young so when you find me with kid, it’s to keep the mind young so as to get results.

I also do guild and teach children how paint, mix colours, splashes and through this I learn from them.
